Guide To Washing Raspberries

Raspberries on a strainer.

Raspberries are delicate and prone to spoiling, but with proper washing and storing practices, you may increase their natural shelf-life. Raspberries are particularly susceptible to surface moulds and bacteria that attack any damaged fruit because they shatter so easily. By using vinegar to gently wash the berries, and storing them with just enough moisture, you can reduce the formation of microbes. You can benefit from fresh and clean raspberries for a number of days after taking them home using this method.

1st step

In a big bow, one-part vinegar with three-parts water to make a diluted vinegar bath.

2nd Step

Put the raspberries inside this vinegar bath gently with clean hands. To remove any dirt, use your fingertips for swishing the berries.

3rd step

Remove the raspberries from said vinegar bath with care and put them inside a colander. To remove the vinegar flavor, use cold water for rinsing the berries.

4th step

Using multiple paper towel layers, line a salad spinner. The raspberries are cushioned by these paper towels, which helps to reduce bruising and breaking.

5th step

Spin the raspberries for approximately ten seconds in the salad spinner.

6th step

Refrigerate the raspberries in a clean container coated with fresh paper towels in a single layer. Allow moisture and gases to escape when the berries release them by leaving the container open.

Hacks for Washing Raspberries (And Other Berries):

It’s crucial to wash all fresh food before eating it. However, because berries are so sensitive, do not wash them until just before using them; otherwise, they will break down and become mushy.

Rinse blackberries, raspberries, boysenberries, and blueberries under cold water instead of hot water to avoid crushing them. Instead, put the berries in a colander ($10, Target) and submerge them in cold water. Allow the berries to drain after gently swishing the colander in the water.

Final Word:

In order to get rid of any bacteria, microbes, or other germs, it is essential to wash raspberries thoroughly and using the right method – and we hope that this blog will help you in that regard.
